A Friday Fling for Energy Conservation

Good humour and good habits abounded last Friday afternoon as the staff at Energy Conservation held a Friday Fling in anticipation of the upcoming Planet Ark National Recycling Week.

Our office may not be large, but we still benefit from a good clean out helped along by a beer and some motivational tunes! By the time we were done we’d filled 5x 12L boxes- that’s 60L collected for recycling and returned to the paper economy. We even separated some soft plastics in the form of old binder sheets and marked the occasion with a new fluorescent tube and battery recycling collection donated to our building.

Congratulations Energy Conservation for a successful Friday Fling!

Energy Conservation carried out a joint venture level 2 energy audit at 1-7 Macquarie Street, Sydney in conjunction with lighting design expert, Julien Freed Consulting. The work was subsidised with an Office of Environment & Heritage Energy Saver Audit valued at $30,000 which covered all lighting, mechanical services, ventilation and electrical equipment. Business cases were developed for upgrades of lighting, HVAC, fans, pumping, pool heating, voltage & BMS optimization and power factor correction. Proposed measures valued at $1.5M with business cases showing 2.6 to 4 years simple payback. The client proceeded immediately with lighting upgrades to be followed by mechanical services upgrades, power factor correction and voltage optimization. Solar PV is likely to proceed and Co-Gen may be a future project when the infrastructure becomes available for possible export of thermal energy to the Sydney Opera House.
