Enhance your sustainability and save material and waste costs: introducing Bin Trim
The Bin Trim program is the largest Australian initiative in the field of business recycling, aimed at promoting waste reduction, energy efficiency, and recycling enhancement in New South Wales. Launched in 2012 and funded by the NSW Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), it stands as the largest program of its kind in Australia.
Since its inception, the Bin Trim Program has undergone several iterations throughout it’s engaged with over 38,000 businesses from 2014 to 2022, diverting over 260,000 tonnes of waste away from landfill.
95% of businesses that have added a recycling service are diverting more waste, improving their productivity and efficiency and saving money.
Participating in the Bin Trim progran helps businesses to accelerate their path to more sustainable business while reducing utility and material costs.
Bin Trims latest iteration: The better organics network
In its third iteration, known as the Bin Trim Network Program, the initiative takes a more strategic approach. This program is designed to develop specific networks targeting distinct waste streams, aligning with the vision of a circular economy.
EC Focus (EC), has been a vital part of the Bin Trim Program since the Program’s inception. In this third phase, EC has taken the lead in the Better Organics Network, focusing on efficient organic waste management.
The Bin Trim process
-
Bin Trim is a tool that can help businesses meet their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) commitments. When businesses focus on the environmental aspect of ESG, they consider three types of emissions: Scope 1, 2, and 3. Waste generation falls under Scope 3 emissions, and Bin Trim can assist.
-
For businesses looking to reduce their Scope 3 emissions, Bin Trim is most useful for improving waste management. It helps by reducing waste generation and increasing recycling. Better waste management directly leads to improved environmental performance and can result in higher ratings on certification tools like Climate Active, Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), NABERS Waste, and B Corp. Our organization, EC, can offer help with these certifications and ratings.
-
Bin Trim is a good starting point for a waste baseline, as it includes visually assessing waste production. These baseline measurements help businesses understand the composition of their waste and plan for future improvements.
